Sammy Hagar, August 17, 2013, Northern Quest Casino, Airway Heights, WA

What can you say about a legend that hasn’t already been said before? Sammy Hagar
has been a consistent, hard rocking man forever and we are so fortunate to live in a time with such a talented musician that shares his gifts to the world, all the while doing it for 4 decades with enthusiasm, passion and a smile.
This tour spanned the four decades of rock he’s been shredding onto the world and took time to cover each decade with a slew of hits, mega hits and brand new material yet to be released. While all the songs would play, he had a multimedia production behind him on the big screen showing the corresponding videos to songs, classic performance footage, news footage and so much more that helped tie the four decades together. Sammy did have to compete a bit at times for our attentions because some asshole decided to have drag racing and jet car drag racing on the same night, so there were times you could hear the fire of a jet engine roar while Sammy would play and talk at times but Sammy, the professional that he is, embraced the challenge with a smile on his face and fed into the silliness of moments with his humor.
His early days with Montrose started the show by playing Space Station #5, Rock Candy and Bad Motor Scooter. Sammy proceeded to play classic solo Sammy songs from his early days like Red, I Can’t Drive 55, There’s Only One Way To Rock and even more familiar stellar tracks from his impressive solo career. Then, he took the time to play tracks from his Van Halen days, like Why Can’t This Be Love, Finish What Ya Started and the one that I never expected to hear, When It’s Love, which took me right back to my first love. My first everything. Even Sammy, after the song, spoke of how many people have told him over the years that When It’s Love was their wedding song, their first time having sex or whatever special first time that’s forever connected with that song to others in this world.
He played three brand new songs from his upcoming release, Sammy Hagar and Friends. The Wabos-era had the crowd rocking out to Mas Tequila, a fun song and always keeping the party rolling along! He closed out the night with a beautiful version of Eagles Fly which is a big crowd favorite.
If you have not had a chance to see Sammy Hagar, do go and check out his concert. I have seen a ton of bands over the years who do not smile, who look like they are so miserable and bored on stage you could hand them a cyanide pill and they would be relieved from the torture of their existence. Sammy never looks bored; he’s always smiling and playing his heart out on stage. Same with his band, they all seem to enjoy each other, playing live music and having a good time anywhere they are at. Sammy Hagar and his band are adored by his audience and he keeps bringing fans from so many generations to the party every fucking night.
